Bishop See Garden — Heritage Tree Management, Perth CBD

Client: Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD), working alongside Brookfield and Lamont’s Restaurant  ·  Location: Bishop See Garden, Perth CBD  ·  Scope: Multi-tree pruning and removal program

Bishop See is one of Perth’s best-known heritage gardens, home to established trees dating back to the garden’s founding in 1890. All Trees Perth has managed and cared for these trees for the past six years, interpreting independent arborist risk assessments and carrying out the pruning and removal work they recommend.

For this project — Job Lot 144 — DPIRD engaged us to treat ten trees of varying species across the garden, ranging from full removal to careful dead-wooding and limb reduction. The three-day program required close coordination with TDL, Brookfield, Lamont’s Restaurant (a wedding venue within the garden), and the City of Perth, including footpath closures and proactive communication with neighbouring offices.

One highlight of the job: a large Platanus x acerifolia originally marked for removal was preserved instead. An aerial inspection identified a viable alternative — a large limb removal and crown reduction — and we safely elevated a DPIRD EWP-qualified staff member in our platform to confirm the treatment was sufficient before proceeding. The project wrapped with the turf and garden beds left exactly as they were found.

Mason Gardens — Dalkeith

Client: Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD)  ·  Location: Mason Gardens, Dalkeith  ·  Scope: Large-scale tree removal, selected from five competing firms

When DPIRD opened a significant tree treatment project at Mason Gardens for tender, All Trees Perth was one of five firms invited to quote. Our senior arborist attended the site walk, working through access constraints with the DPIRD case manager — including park areas vehicles couldn’t reach because of soak wells and irrigation infrastructure.

After winning the job, we planned a two-truck, two-chipper operation running simultaneously in separate zones of the park, backed by tracked EWPs, an articulated mini loader and a stump grinder — producing several truckloads of chipped material a day, safely transported and disposed of at Jandakot.

During quoting, we identified that removal work would leave a large volume of small debris across the park’s turf. We sourced a 2-metre rake attachment for our mini loader that cleared the debris without damaging the grass — a detail that helped win the job and made the on-site clean-up significantly faster. At completion, DPIRD’s case manager walked the site and specifically praised the clean-up in hard-to-access pond areas that could easily have been overlooked.

Optus Stadium — Ongoing Vegetation Management Since 2018

Client: TDL Landscaping (grounds & parklands maintenance contractor) and BGIS (venue and site managers)  ·  Location: Optus Stadium, Burswood  ·  Scope: Ongoing arboricultural maintenance

All Trees Perth has been the preferred arborist contractor at Optus Stadium for more than four years, working under TDL Landscaping’s maintenance contract for the venue’s external grounds and parklands.

Regular work includes reducing fast-growing eucalypts that encroach on lighting and security camera poles, safety pruning of dead branches overhanging the grass amphitheatre, and a biennial canopy reduction on the avenue of eight Erythrina x sykesii trees near the Camfield.

The stadium is a live, high-traffic public venue, so every job is planned around event schedules and pedestrian and cyclist movement, with our crews kept current on site-specific induction requirements. When a tree was found blocking security camera vision at an underpass just two days before a major event, we mobilised immediately and cleared it in time. We’ve now completed well over 200 jobs on site, working closely with TDL and BGIS to keep disruption to a minimum.

Hyde Park Islands — Large-Scale Environmentally Sensitive Removal

Client: DPIRD and City of Vincent  ·  Location: Hyde Park, Highgate  ·  Scope: Crane-assisted tree removal across two park islands

Hyde Park’s two islands presented one of the most logistically complex jobs we’ve undertaken — complete removal of designated trees across both islands with zero disturbance to the waterway, delivered over just under five weeks in May–June 2025.

The project used a 250-tonne crane, tracked EWPs, an articulated mini loader and multiple chipper crews, with personnel and equipment moved on and off the islands using ground protection matting, temporary access boards, and a man cage when rising water made board crossings unsafe. Roughly 200 bulk bags of topsoil were craned in to dress the stumps after removal.

Weeks of pre-planning — including underground services scans, a geotechnical survey, and coordination with a crane lift supervisor — meant the team could adapt when conditions changed mid-project, including a methodology revision to work around an underground gas main and an overhead power line that had to be de-energised before crane operations could begin.

• Approximately 440 tonnes of tree material processed and removed from site
• Zero safety incidents across the full project
• Positive feedback from the City of Vincent, BAM officers and local residents
• No evidence of disturbance to active wildlife nests throughout the works
